MongoBackup – MongoDB Backup Management System

A secure MongoDB backup management platform built to automate database backups, manage multiple MongoDB connections, protect database credentials, and store backup files reliably with configurable retention and scheduling.

MongoBackup is a centralized database backup management system developed to simplify and automate MongoDB backup operations for multiple projects and environments. The project was created to address a common development and infrastructure problem: multiple applications using different MongoDB databases can make manual backup management difficult and unreliable. Instead of maintaining individual backup processes for every project, MongoBackup provides a single platform for registering database connections, verifying connectivity, creating backups, and managing backup schedules. The platform allows administrators to securely register multiple MongoDB connection strings and organize their databases from one dashboard. Before a database is added, the connection can be verified to ensure that the supplied credentials and cluster are accessible. Security was a major consideration because MongoDB connection strings may contain sensitive database credentials. The system uses encryption to protect stored connection information rather than keeping database credentials in plain text. Automated scheduling was also implemented to support recurring database backups. Backup jobs can run according to configured schedules, while retention rules help control storage usage by removing older backup files when required. The system was designed with cloud storage support so database backups can be moved away from the application server and stored in external object storage. This provides an additional layer of protection in case the primary server or database environment becomes unavailable. MongoBackup ultimately provides a centralized, automated, and security-focused workflow for managing MongoDB backups across multiple applications and environments.
